Today looks like seeing the rollout of a brand new look by Google with what I feel is a much crisper and more modern front search page with feature packed search results that will no doubt have millions of naysayers running around waving their arms in disgust.
First impressions are that I quite like the new look, although the results page can sometimes feel a bit cramped (This topic is open to discussion so let me know what you think by entering your thoughts on Google's new look at the bottom of the page).

The first thing you may notice on the results page is a consistent left hand column with a rather sweet dropdown menu feature. As a PHP web developer I particularly noticed the effort that has been put into the fading of the links before the menu glide. The following images show the menu and search tool elements expanded.

The 'Search Tools' offer a whole host of options to refine your search results, some of which may become quite contentious such as the 'Fewer shopping sites' option. Other search tools include 'Sites with images' and 'Page previews' shown below, both of which I can see myself using quite a lot in the long run.
One complaint I do have overall is with the page preview images that show an image of the resulting page cropped from the top left corner rather than a thumbnail screenshot. I'm sure this will be sorted in time though.
